Asheville, NC
Wednesday, September 15 – Yes, I know everyone has been waiting with bated breath for this update
Discovered the sun rises much later here than in New England but figured my HIIT class compadres from home were already at it so I had better get moving. Got in my 4 miles jogging through the quiet (but well lit) main drag of Gatlinburg.
Once the sun was up we headed for the Potter’s Creek Trail in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. A very pretty trail with a bit of incline, lots of water and some flora and fauna. Did realize how different Dan and I are:
Example 1. Getting off a rudimentary log bridge with a rather low railing and meeting a young couple on the other side:
Chris: It’s a little tougher for tall people.
Dan: The rail is below your center of gravity, it’s just like the time I was in a hot air balloon and the basket just came to my hip…..
Young Couple(smiling): Uhhhh, thanks
Example 2:
Fisherman: Does the trail come any closer to the water than here?
Chris: No
Dan: Well, if you go up about a mile there are a couple of spots where you could hike down and then wade into a pool…
Fisherman: Uhhh, thanks
Regardless, awesome hike in a beautiful venue.
Then a short hop to Asheville, and a little time to relax and clean up before a delicious dinner in the Biltmore Village section of town.
Tomorrow we head for Atlanta!
Hotel:
Hampton Inn & Suites:
Again, standard chain hotel, well located off the Interstate and close to the sights in town.
