Rovinj, Croatia
Sunday, September 18 – Finishing our 2nd week. Took an early morning walk around Split to say goodbye, then Mass at the Monastery of St Francis before heading north.
We decided to take the ‘road less traveled’ and hug the Adriatic coastline. That definitely added to the travel time, particularly when stuck behind campers whose engines seemed to be powered by two squirrels and a rubber band.
Still, some beautiful scenery. We made a quick lunch stop in Senj, which has a pirate fortress overlooking its harbor. Kind of a cool history, but, alas, no pirates were spotted today.
Finally got to Rovinj late afternoon–it is a lovely little town perched on the water and filled with a tangle of narrow alleyways. We did a quick walk around town before dinner and plan to explore further tomorrow.
We had a nice dinner on a little square and look forward to a day sans driving tomorrow.

Not really hotel nor an AirBnB — basically a building with a couple of apartments tucked away in a little courtyard off of one of Rovinj’s winding alleyways. Took us a while to find it! Our studio included a small kitchen and seating area and it could not have been more convenient to exploring the town. Parking was a little trickier, we had to park on the outskirts and walk in — not a dealbreaker, but something to keep in mind.
