Rovinj, Croatia
Tuesday, September 20 – Road trip day. Drove to the Slovenian city of Piran. Perched on a peninsula on Slovenia’s tiny slice of Adriatic coastline, it is known for its Venetian architecture.
It was a beautiful day and we strolled the waterfront and climbed up to both the Church of St George and the remains of the City wall.
We were prevented from completing the full waterfront walk as there is a Netflix movie being filmed on sight. If you ever end up seeing “Our Man from Jersey” starring Halle Berty and Mark Wahlberg, it was filmed here. We didn’t see either Halle or Mark, but a car scene was filmed multiple times while we ate lunch–we are very familiar with that one second of the movie.
Late afternoon we drove back to Rovinj–which entails trips through both Croatia and Slovenia border control each way. Our passports are beginning to look like Phineas Fogg’s!
Got cleaned up and hiked back up to the courtyard of the church to catch the beautiful sunset. Decided on pizza for dinner, then a final nighttime stroll along the water.
It’s been a great visit, tomorrow we are back to Slovenia (more passport stamps!) and some spelunking!
