Florida, 2023 Day 5

Siesta Key, Florida

Saturday November 4 – First full day in Siesta Key was very relaxed. Got up early and spurned the workout for coffee and lounging before anyone else was awake. (For those who are checking, did get my bodyweight exercises in later on our back patio–Dawn, I’m looking at you!)

Once others were stirring, Dan joined me and Nancy for our daily sunrise beach walk. Much to our surprise, he actually kept up 😃.

We were not alone as this beautiful stretch of sand seemed popular with early morning walkers (average age 76) along with a most enthusiastic woman who apparently wanted to video us for Siesta Key promotional purposes. She really needs to cut back on the morning java consumption!

Did a big breakfast in house this morning, complete with mimosas, then were ready for a few hours on the beach (all that eating can be stressful).

The Chamber of Commerce woman must have been bursting with excitement this afternoon–it was a perfect beach day–sunshine, light breeze, crystal clear waves and the softest sand ever (OK, granted, I’m from New England, anything that isn’t boulders seems cushy, but still, this is nice). Delightful.

When we decided we had had enough sun, we cleaned up and strolled among the village shops and settled in a tiki bar for a round of umbrella drinks–I am pretty sure the waitress had to be the C of C woman’s daughter, but, with a table full of beverages, her exuberance seemed charming rather than annoying 🙂.

Our rental has a lovely patio area in the shade where we lounged, chatted and read for the rest of the afternoon–tough work, but we managed.

Wandered back to the village in the early evening and enjoyed a better than expected meal at a local bar/restaurant.

Took a post dinner stroll along the main drag, deftly avoiding the folks who looked like they might have had a bit too much fun and were now ready to share their meals with pedestrians.

Now again relaxing on the patio, “good tired” from a fine day and looking forward to having some visitors join us tomorrow.

Practical Stuff
Sights

Siesta Beach (also called Crescent Beach at the southern end) is a beautiful expanse of wide, white sanded beach. Apparently, the sand is made up of almost 100% quartz which makes it very reflective and cool on the feet.

We are very lucky that one entry point to the beach is a very short walk from our VRBO as parking is minimal. Means we enjoy the beach and there aren’t a lot of crowds!
