Portugal Trip Day 3

Evora, Portugal

Wednesday, March 29 – Woke after 9 solid hours of sleep (perhaps I should thank Granny “shaken, not stirred ” from the plane) and took a 3 mile jog as the city woke up. Quickly remembered how much fun cobblestones are as a running surface.

After a lovely hotel breakfast, headed out into the countryside and through the cork groves to see megalithic sites of the area. This included Dan ‘s on-going hilarious commentary on the turning radius of our rental car and the condition of the roads we were traversing–the man is from the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont and he’s complaining about dirt roads?? However, I digress. The sites were fascinating and (probably thanks to the road) completely free from tourists.

Back in Evora, a nice lunch on the terrace, complete with more chats with folks at other tables, then some more strolling and sightseeing in town. Finally, one of the best dining experiences I have ever had at Taberna Típica Quarta Feira . 9 tables, no menu, they just bring you what they are making. 10 small plates, a salad, 3 veggie sides, two meat courses and a 4 dessert sampler. A bottle of wine, coffee and tea. 2 1/2 hours and, oh, by the way, $120. Yeah, pretty awesome. A great close to a wonderful day.

Tomorrow we move on to our next stop.

29,229 steps, 13.7 miles.
