Hillsboro Beach, Florida
Friday, November 1 – Jillian’s first full day here, so we needed to make sure she we gave her a full share of Florida experiences. Enough of this relaxing in the sun, we had places to be, activities to enjoy!
The day dawned with some threatening looking clouds and a short rain storm, but it cleared in time for a good morning walk. Nancy 1 still had a half day of work, but the rest of us headed off to wander around Lauderdale by the Sea.
After checking out the beach, Nancy 2 & Jillian suggested a lunch menu–a couple of apps, a beverage, and ice cream for dessert–perfect!
Meanwhile, Nancy “Not Erin’s Aunt” finished up at work and returned our rental car to the airport. We picked her up in a dank rental car garage. I guess we weren’t the most prompt Uber drivers she’s ever had, but the price was right.
Then it was off to the Intercoastal Waterway for some tandem kayaking among the big boats and even bigger homes. Less windy than earlier this week, but it was still a good workout–made up for me missing TRX class this morning. I fear I might feel it tomorrow morning!
Back to the condo to get cleaned up. Jillian volunteered to cook for us this evening (like father, like daughter). As far as I’m concerned, any Brochu manning the grill works for me!
Great day full of activities and fun, though all the exercise and fresh air already has us fading fast. Started thinking about tomorrow, our last full day here (it goes by soooooo quickly). Regardless, I am confident it will be a good time with this crowd!

Housing:
Once again, enjoying Nancy’s hospitality.
Kayaking:

Easy place to park and rent one or two person kayaks for exploring the Intercoastal waterway. Some busy spots, a lot of secluded coves and a plethora of expensive yachts and houses
Fort Lauderdale by the Sea is definitely a tourist spots, but it’s a fun place fun to wander the streets, pop into a shop, grab a bite and check out the beach.
Kayaking on this section of the Intercoastal sure gives one a taste of how the other half lives — but it is also a great way to get out on the water and get some fresh air and sunshine.

Yesterday at Palm Beach and today kayaking along the mansions, I can’t help but be struck by the differences in the world of the top 1%. I have zero basis to talk, I am very privileged, but I do wonder if we can do better…
